The Science of Cognitive Performance

The brain is the most complex organ in the human body. Responsible for our every thought, action, memory and experience, it contains one hundred billion nerve cells called neurons.

Neurons communicate with one another using electricity. When millions of neurons communicate at once, they produce synchronized electrical patterns called brainwaves.

These electrical patterns form the root of all human thoughts and behavior.

The Prefrontal Cortex

One of the key brain areas responsible for memory and attention is the prefrontal cortex. This area is located at the front of the brain, directly behind the eyes and forehead, and is involved in higher-level cognitive processes like decision making and problem solving.

Different brainwave patterns in the prefrontal cortex have been linked to essential cognitive functions in learning, such as memory and attention. These brainwave patterns can be measured when learning something new.

Boosting Brainwaves

Edge has two primers on the front of the headset which produce small electrical signals. During a boosting session, a large number of neurons in the prefrontal cortex adjust their electrical pattern to match the signal from the primers. This amplifies the brainwave patterns responsible for improved information processing and working memory. Edge also enhances neuroplasticity with ongoing use through up-regulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), an important nerve growth factor.

Edge’s electrical signals are almost unnoticeable when you wear it – at most, you might feel a slight tingling sensation on your skin.

How to Use Edge

You should boost with Edge for 15 minutes before a learning or working session. The boosting effects work straight away while you’re wearing Edge, and last for over an hour afterwards.

Edge helps accelerate:

i

Absorbing new course material

Learning a new language

Powering through emails

Multitasking at work

Safety

Edge is based on more than 30 years of research on thousands of people, with no adverse effects. If the Edge headband is tightened too much, you may experience temporary red marks on your skin from the band.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I get my hands on one?

Edge is currently in development for our late 2019 launch. In the meantime we are keen to learn more about how Edge can help you, and so we’re offering a number of opportunities to use Edge prior to its public release in late 2019. However we are only able to offer early access to those who pay a reservation deposit.

What does the reservation include?

Your refundable deposit secures you a place in our early access program and will contribute towards a discounted purchase price on release, which we currently estimate to be $300 - $500.

How do I find out more or get involved?

Email us at thinkbetter@humm.tech to get in touch if you have more questions, if you're interested in collaborating or keen to join our growing team.

Is Edge safe?

Yes. Edge is based on more than 30 years of research on thousands of subjects, with no adverse effects. We use an exceptionally small current (about 2 milliamps and less than 20 volts). That’s about 1/100th of the electricity already flowing through the brain, and less than an electric toothbrush.

How much is the reservation deposit?

To take part in the Early Access Program, the reservation deposit is $40.00USD.

GET EARLY ACCESS

Become one of the first users of Edge. Your reservation deposit includes immediate access to an Edge headset prototype, a discounted purchase price on release, and optional consultation with HUMM about how to improve your memory and attention with Edge.

We will be in touch via email within 24hrs after you place the reservation. The deposit is refundable at any time (email thinkbetter@humm.tech).
